According to a press release on HealthCare.gov, the Department of Health and Human Services announced the availability of $51 million in resources that can be used by states in the establishment of health insurance Exchanges. This works out to a grant of $1 million per state.

In addition, the HHS has published a request for comment, asking for public input as the department develops standards to be used for the Exchanges.

HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius said: “With most states struggling to keep their budgets in balance, these grants will give them the resources to conduct the research and planning needed to build the health insurance marketplace of the future. We are working hand-in-hand with states as we carefully implement the Exchanges to make sure they best meet people’s health insurance needs.”
